Homework Tips

The best advice to you, as a parent, is to be patient while they are completing their homework each night with you. Continue to give them support and encouragement even when they become frustrated or do not want to complete it. Also, create a quiet place for him/her to work.

Quick Tips for Helping Your Child Study Math Facts

*Your child will be tested weekly on his/her math facts. In order to pass to the next level, students must complete all math facts correctly within a given time period.

How can you help your child study math facts each night?
*Cut math facts apart into strips.
*Have your child or you write the answer on the back with a pencil.

*Flip through them like flashcards each night.
*Set aside facts that they are struggling to get the answer correct.

*If your child is struggling with a lot of facts, only focus on a few each night so they can feel successful.

Quick Tips for Studying Spelling
*Monday - Say each word and have your child spell them on paper. Put a mark by misspelled words. Tell your child how many words were spelled correctly. Look at words spelled incorrectly. Talk about the meaning, look for clues to help remember spelling - rhyming words, small words, syllables, combinations, etc. Have your child write the word one time with their finger or on paper, dry erase board, or other writing material.

*Tuesday - Say each word (mix up the order) and ask your child to write it on paper. Have your child correct their paper. Write each incorrect word one time with finger and one time on paper or other writing material.

*Wednesday - Repeat yesterday’s schedule but work only on words misspelled Tuesday.

*Thursday - Last-chance workout. Say each word and have your child write it. Check the paper together. Ask your child to write each misspelled word three times using a different colored marker, pen, etc. each time and then call it quits.
